Hand Camp 2024

In early September, we had Hand Camp in Pitosi, Missouri. It’s amazing so share that this camp has been changing lives since 2008 (we did miss a few pandemic years). The impact of the camp is difficult to share in this blog but I do want to share a few things.

The camp is so refreshing for me as each year I am able to interact with kids and families outside of the hospital. I am able to connect in a different way and listen, really listen, to their stories. It is so impactful for me and such an important reminder of why I am so fortunate to be a part of this amazing community. Each. year I bring young doctors, residents in orthopedics or hand surgery fellows, to share in the experience. It is also remarkable to see this experience through their eyes.

I know that Hand Camp impacts the children affected with hand differences as they are able to meet other kids, often with similar differences. They too can connect with others in a different way. The same can be said for siblings and of course parents. The group discussions are remarkable in the sharing of personal journeys which leads to tears, connections, and shared joy.

So amazing.
